It prompts the reader to search for the shame areas located deep in the heart. God is a great healer but our job is to surrender those hurtful areas and trust that He can handle them for us. Most people don't trust God enough to give Him their hurts. But once you do, you are changed in a nano-second by His love. I encourage all to confess their hurt and surrender it to God.
